The Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA) on Friday 19th December 2014 disclosed at the SLMA conference room, Government Wharf in Freetown that 32 sea accidents were recorded, 1,001 people saved with 13 causalities for the year 2014.
He was updating the media on the activities of SLMA for 2014 including its successes and challenges.
Alhaji Wurroh Jalloh described this year as challenging, especially with the Ebola outbreak but maintained that SLMA achieved 98% of its programs aimed at face-lifting the institution to meet international standard.
According to Wurroh Jalloh, the Administration registered 32 sea accidents with 13 causalities and 1,001 survivors, the first in the history of SLMA in saving lives and property and commended traffic regulators for a job well done.

Saidu Conteh appeared before Magistrate Komba Kamanda of Freetown Court No.2 on Monday 22nd December 2014 for allegedly robbing Hon. Ajibola Manly Spaine property worth Le71 million at his Spur Road residence in Freetown.
The accused was arraigned on four count charges ranging from conspiracy to commit a felony contrary to law, robbery with aggravation contrary to section 23 (1) (a) of the Larceny Act 1916 as repealed and replaced by section 2 of No.16 1971, wounding contrary to section 20 to assault occasioning actual bodily harm contrary to section 47 of the Offences Against the Persons Act 1861.
The court was informed that the accused, Saidu Conteh on Monday 8th December 2014 at 41 Q Derrick Drive, Off Spur Road in Freetown conspired with other persons unknown to commit a felony to wit robbery with aggravation and that the accused being armed with a gun, robbed Ajibola Manly-Spaine 1 Nokia Lumia mobile phone valued at Le3 million, 1 two sim X-mobile phone valued at Le1 million, 1 Apple i pad valued Le3 million, 4 wrist watches each valued at Le500,000 (Le2 million), 1 briefcase containing of $12, 500 equivalent to Le71 million all totaling Le71 million.
President Koroma Lauds UN Scribe

President Koroma and Ban Ki Moon
President Ernest Bai Koroma has commended the Secretary General of the United Nations for his kind support and concerned showed to the Government and people of Sierra Leone since the Ebola outbreak in May this year.
He made this statement at a press conference at State House on Friday 19th December 2014 during the visit of the UN Secretary General to sympathize with victims of the pandemic.
President Koroma recalled March this year when the UN scribe was in the country to wrap-up the operations of the United Nations Peace Building Mission (UNIPSIL) when Government was fast-tracking implementation of its programs under the Agenda for Prosperity with the economy rated the fastest growing but lamented that the outbreak has reversed some of the gains.
Africell Supports ‘Operation Surge’ With Tents & Food

Africell on Monday 22nd December, 2014 delivered hundreds of bags of rice and tents to New Town, Off Wilkinson Road, Freetown, Don Bosco Fambul orphanage home and the Freetown City Council to support 'Operation Surge' in the Western Area that commenced on 17th December 2014.
On Friday 19th December, 2014, Africell also presented its fifth consignment of food items to the National Ebola Response Center (NERC) for distribution to quarantined communities, less privileged homes and other areas significantly affected by the Ebola epidemic and also presented tents for the construction of Ebola Holding Centers to the Women Rise Up Against Ebola organization.
The ceremony took place at the company's Wilberforce headquarters in Freetown.

For the past three months, the Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Women of Hope International located at Teko Road in Makeni, Northern Sierra Leone, has focused its operations on relief work for disability groups in Makeni City and its environs.
The organization has distributed various items to disadvantaged groups including rice, beans, palm oil and onions worth millions of Leones.
One of the beneficiaries, a disabled, Fatmata Koroma of Magbenteh Village, disclosed to this press that the distribution was timely and commended the organization for its passion for the less-fortunate and for restoring their hope and dignity.
'"The Ebola virus has attacked the entire country. We are not recognized by the rich as we are considered beggars due to our disabilities. We will forever remain thankful to God for Women of Hope International for the invaluable gesture,'' she affirmed.
SLITHU Hands Over 3 Sick To Heath Workers

The Sierra Leone Indigenous Traditional Healers' Union (SLITHU) Task Force, headed by the National Chairman, Mohamed A. Kamara on Monday 22nd December 2014 launched its version of Operation Surge to search and remove the sick at Moyeba community, one of the Ebola prone-areas in the East of Freetown.
The team, comprising the Director of Traditional Medicine, Ibrahim S. Dumbuya and the National Chairman of the Union, Mohamed A. Kamara, handed over three sick people to health workers for treatment.
"We have also earmarked a house where a sick person is reported hiding," The Director of Traditional Medicine asserted adding that the residence of five herbalists were also thoroughly searched and warned to desist from all forms of traditional practices till the outbreak is contained.
The National Chairman informed this medium that the Operation commenced few days ago with the Western Rural District being the first place to search for the sick informing that similar Operations are ongoing countrywide.
Le100 M Bail For Impostor Of Passport & USA Visa

Magistrate Komba Kamanda of Freetown Court No.2 on Monday 22nd December 2014 granted a bail of Le100 million to a 46 year-old impostor, Mariama (Ya Marie) Janneh for impersonating Irene Sesay at the American Embassy, Immigration Department and Births and Deaths Department to acquire an American visa.
The application for bail was made due to the absence of the Prosecution Witness (s) that caused the Defense Counsel. F.B. Koroma to adopt the previous bail application submitted by his colleague, D. Johnson and adopted by the police prosecutor Sergeant 922 Dumbuya J. on Thursday 18th December 2014.
The accused was granted bail with two sureties each in like sum, one of which must be a property owner in the Western Area and must surrender his/her tittle deed to the Acting Master and Registrar that must be approved by the Acting Master and Registrar while the matter was adjourned to 9th December 2014.
As at press time yesterday, the accused was unable to meet the stiff bail conditions and was remanded.
Energy Ministry Holds Workshop On Sustainable Energy Supply

Sierra Leone is endowed with huge renewable energy potential which is grossly untapped and underutilized due to lack of government policy Direction, lack of financial resources and inadequate research and development of renewable energy technologies.
Because of this, the Ministry of Energy has held a day workshop on Thursday 18th December 2014 to discuss and validate National Energy Action plans, sustainable Energy for all Action Agenda and Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Policies at its office NPA Building, Siaka Steven Street in Freetown. These policies are to provide sustainable energy supply for the whole country between now to 2030.
Giving his opening remarks, the Director of Energy, Engineer Benjamin Kamara, said these policies are needed because it would be requested by foreign investors who wish to invest in the Nation's Economy based on a national programe strategy instead of a project approach adding that these policies mark the initial steps of aligning the Sierra Leone renewable energy policy with the renewable energy policy of the ECOWAS.

The frustrated Mr. Berardi Giovanni, wants to commit suicide
Mr. Berardi Giovanni, an Italian national has in a letter to the First Lady of Sierra Leone, Mrs. Sia Nyama Koroma, appealed for assistance complaining that he has been denied justice by the Sierra Leone judiciary after two Sierra Leoneans, Mr. Bami Baker and Mr. Femi Boyle Hebron commandeered his gold refinery factory worth $2,000,000.
He informed this medium in tears that he came to Sierra Leone in October 2004, applied and was issued with all the relevant licenses to invest in a gold refinery factory for which he formed the Sierra Leonean company, White Lion Sierra Leone Limited and also employed local staff.
Mr. Berardi Giovanni continued that the factory was 100% ready to commence operations in September 2005 when he suffered cancer of the stomach and had to travel abroad to seek medical attention.
Action-SL Donates $350,000 Worth Of Medical Items To Lunsar

Action Sierra Leone, in collaboration with Action Africa and Project Care, has donated a 40 feet container of medical items and supplies worth over $350,000 to the Lunsar Health Center in the Port Loko District, Northern Sierra Leone to contain the Ebola outbreak as well as complement Government's free healthcare scheme for lactating and pregnant mothers and children under-five years.
Dr. Ishmael Kamara, Adviser to Action Sierra Leone, affirmed that Sierra Leoneans cannot sit by and allow Ebola to continue ravaging the country, the reason they have mobilized all their resources and that of other well-wishers to end the pandemic.
Presenting the 40 feet container of medical items, equipment and supplies to the people of Lunsar, Dr. Ishmael Kamara assured that the gesture would continue disclosing that this is not the first donation and recalled 2012 when a similar donation of medical supplies and equipment estimated at $500,000 was made to the Magburaka Government Hospital.
